William Sherrill took over the UNIA when Garvey was locked up. A product of Jefferson County, Arkansas, he saw some of the most brutal treatment of Black people growing up. He is the one who carried Black Nationalism and Pan Afrikanism from the 20’s and 30’s into the 1950’s and 1960’s.
