May 19, 1925 Malcolm Little came into this world. Today makes 100 years of Malcolm X. In May of 1964, he visited the University of Ibadan in Nigeria. Following his speech, the Nigerian Muslim Students Society made him an honorary member and gave him the name Omowale. The name means “the son who has come home”. In essence the name Omowale was a symbolic gesture of welcome and recognition of Malcolm X’s Afrikan heritage and his advocacy for Black empowerment and liberation. ✊🏿
